What is Sacred Clowning?

(In memory of Gisela who contributed so much to the sacred Clown)

Sacred clowning is the art of revealing truth through play. Rooted in ancient traditions across many cultures, the sacred clown holds paradox in their hands: joy and sorrow, chaos and clarity, mischief and medicine. With tender irreverence, the clown dismantles masks, disrupts expectations, and invites us into deeper presence. They are both fool and guide—bridging the visible and invisible, helping us remember what it means to be fully human.

The Sacred Clown is not an actor, he/she is an embodiment of presence, & the Joy of being, playing innocently with the mystery and adversity of life. Free from concepts he explores, senses, touches the earth, people and the world. Openly improvising a hundred ways to rejoice while failing and touch the stars while drowning. He is free.

In this moment
Love only love
Nowhere to go
Nothing to be found
but blessings
And more blessings
A spring
quenching all thirsts
